Transition option assessment
A decision framework for comparing industrial transition options before capital is committed.

Mandate
ALMANAC supported an industrial team facing a crowded field of transition possibilities. The brief was to separate credible options from attractive ideas, building a common basis for decisions across operations, engineering, finance and strategy.
The challenge was not a lack of technologies. It was understanding how individual interventions interacted with plant realities, energy availability, infrastructure and future demand. Without that integrated view, early decisions risked creating stranded effort or locking the organisation into a narrow pathway.
Assessment framework
ALMANAC created an option framework that compared potential pathways through practical delivery criteria: emissions impact, technical maturity, dependency chains, capital intensity and timing. Working sessions turned fragmented evidence into a structured decision record, making assumptions visible and priorities defensible.

A basis for action
The resulting assessment gave the client a clear set of priorities for development, investigation and pause. It made the trade-offs legible to senior decision-makers and identified the evidence required before the next investment gate. The outcome was a stronger strategic position: prepared to move when conditions aligned, rather than committing too early.
